SUPER PLAY CORNER - SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER 1993

While I continue playing through Zelda 4 (it's been a very busy week... sorry, not very far into it yet...) you can entertain yourself by reading some more entertaining news from Issue 12 of Super Play!

Now let's get some highlights from this mag, shall we? We shall. (As always, click the picture to view it full-size)

This is kinda silly, but I still found it amusing. ^_^

A couple of interesting stats there.

Sometimes I get a bit of a slap in the face and realise how much time has actually passed since I was a teenager. The idea of a gaming help line on the telephone is just laughable now. The internet really has changed the world. A LOT. But back then ringing these guys was just what you did when you were stuck on a game and you couldn't find help in any of your magazines.

Hope you enjoyed abother little trip down memory lane. I hope to have the next episode up in the next few days. Not sure how much game-playing time I'll get, but at least it's school holidays now. Sleep-ins FTW!!!

EPISODE 35

And here... we... go!

What do you reckon? Is MM5 one of your favourites? Leave a comment.

Only two games to play this week. (big sigh) I've passed the "half-way" point in the amount of weeks I'd scheduled in to play games this year. We're a little past the half-way point of the year though, so I might have to do a bit of catch-up. Oh well, school holidays next week!
:-D  :-D :-D

VICTORY!!

I finally finished Dragon Quest V!
I've been playing that since April! Now that I've put that to bed, I can concentrate more on Xenoblade... Er... I mean, retro games! Next update is still a few days off, but bear with me.

SUPER PLAY CORNER - AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 1993

While I play through some old-school classics (and Xenoblade...) here's some more retro-mag goodness to bring back the memories of August / September 1993...

Remember, many of these scans (like the one below) are quite large, so you'll need to click them to view full-size.

The aftermath of the Super C.D. cancellation is analyzed here. It's funny - in the whole of video game history, Nintendo has never actually had a C.D. based system.

Ahaha, look how young Miyamoto looks! Even before its release, it sounds like he was unhappy with the Mario movie.

Peter Main used to be a big-wig at Nintendo of America. He says that a Mario FX would be "a good idea." I wonder if Yoshi's Island had started development at that point. As awesome as the Super FX chip was, it was apparently just too expensive for development houses to justify using. There was Stunt Race FX, Vortex, Yoshi's Island, a port of Doom and a couple of other forgettable titles. That's all the games that included the chip after this interview.

And here was the amazing new technology that was going to reinvent the console gaming market: the 3DO! I've got to give credit where it's due, it was an interesting idea; make a gaming console "standard" that different companies could license out. As it turns out, the machine was way too expensive and just didn't have the games.

See you next time!

EPISODE 34

First of all, R.I.P. ScrewAttack. They changed the entire website and completely removed user-created videos. Which SUCKS. Hopefully the folks who used to watch the show over on that website find their way here instead.

Anyway, welcome one-and-all to the special party episode!

I did mention that there would be cake... The cake was a lie, I'm sorry.

I learned something today. THQ stands for "Toy Headquarters." Huh. What kid would want toys as crap as the games that THQ used to make? Admittedly, The Lawnmower Man was surprisingly decent for a THQ production.

Hopefully the next episode won't be too far away... especially with Xenoblade now having entered my life... Catch ya!

EPISODE 33

I had a whole heap of pain this week in capturing some of the videos. Computer was just being DUMB. Anyways, it's all done and prettied up now and I now present... da-da-da-daaaaa... Episode 33.

Wow, 11 minutes? Longest episode yet. (Sorry!) Only 3 games next week. Phew! Here's the current results, for those playing at home...

Rondo is awesome! :-D It's funny, before this year I only considered myself a very tepid Castlevania fan, but the more I play, the more I'm getting into it. The next one will be the Mega Drive one that I've never even seen. Should be interesting. The next episode will be an exciting one. I'll see if you can figure out why...
